Whenever an athlete gets seriously hurt, it automatically humbles each and everyone one of us. We don’t normally witness these types of situations, but when they do happen, it puts everything into perspective.
This is exactly what transpired between the Colorado Rockies and the Washington Nationals on Saturday night. In the top of the 2nd inning, Nationals’ shortstop Ian Desmond hit a line drive directly to the face of Rockies’ starting pitcher, Juan Nicasio.
As the baseball ricocheted off Nicasio, a loud sigh emerged inside the stadium automatically followed by immediate silence. The Rockies medical staff quickly ran to the field to assist the injured pitcher.
As Nicasio was being treated, it was one of those situations where you just feel tremendously bad for the pitcher. I seriously stayed glued to the screen hoping at one point or another that there would start to be some type of movement from Nicasio.
“We see him moving his fingers, which is a bit of a good sign,” one of the commentators said.
According to the Denver Post, the 24-year old Colorado pitcher is currently in serious condition with a fractured neck. Let’s all hope that Juan Nicasio bounces back and returns to the mound sooner than later.
The Colorado Rockies won the game with the score of 15-7.
