At this current time, both the owners and the players association have not yet agreed on a new bargaining agreement. Due to this difficult situation, the NBA has finally decided to delay team-training camps, in addition to canceling the first week of preseason (A total of 43 games).
According to the Boston Globe and AP writer Brian Mahoney, training camps were scheduled to start on October 3, 2011, however due to the circumstances at hand, the league has officially cancelled all basketball activity from October 9-15.
Now, I could definitely bore you with other details, but who cares about it right? All this other information is irrelevant to us basketball fans. We only care about the coming season and the idea that we won’t be able to see our favorite NBA stars, such as Derrick Rose, Dwyane Wade, and Kobe Bryant is very frustrating. (I am sure you guys would all agree)
There were rumors that if the NBA season does not happen this year, current basketball players will stampede overseas in order to play basketball. Some of the more popular names are below:
Kobe Bryant – Europe
Dwight Howard – China/Spain
Kevin Durant – China/Europe
Deron Williams – Turkey
Amare Stoudemire – Turkey
Dwyane Wade – Europe
Tony Parker – France
The last thing the NBA wants is for all these marquee players to move on and go their separate ways. Players like Bryant, Wade, and Durant have molded the NBA into the league that everyone loves and adores. Not having a season would be a tragedy for everyone involved, most importantly the fans.
For now, let’s all hope for the best. I found myself watching the WNBA, which actually is not that bad if good teams are playing. Seriously! If you’re not into that, there are always video games. NBA 2K12 is set to release on October 4. This is all we have people, I’m just saying.
