When New York Jets’ linebacker, Bart Scott trademarked the phrase, “Can’t wait,” it was without question one of the funniest acts an athlete had done in a long time.

More and more players are now in tune with making some extra cash through merchandising. If it means receiving additional income by way of a popular phrase or even a “catchy” nickname, then so be it.

According to USA TODAY, immediately following this year’s NFL draft, the second overall pick from Baylor University, Robert Griffin III wasted no time in protecting intellectual property.

The former college Bears’ quarterback had hired an attorney to form an newly built LLC, titled “Thr3escompany.” The NFL rookie continued to also trademark his nicknames, such as RGIII, RG3 and a phrase that read “Unbelievably Believable.”

What’s the purpose of the phrase you ask? While playing NFL football, the Washington Redskins’ new quarterback plans to control a clothing company that revolved around the phrase among other things. T-Shirts, jackets, pants, sneakers, you name it… the phrase “Unbelievably Believable” will be sold everywhere.

It seems that Robert Griffin III is a natural at taking full advantage of all the media the NFL has to offer. Confidence will not be a problem for this young and savvy millionaire.

While I admire the kid’s confidence, he better prove himself on the football field, or his off field ventures won’t matter much.

It’s a bit surprising. Usually with rookies entering the NFL, they tend to keep a low-profile. You can tell RGIII won’t be that type of player at all. Let’s see what happens.

Savvy and smart , yes on RGIII’s part! Now let’s hope that Redskins’ offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan doesn’t ##ck up the kid’s career in the NFL. After-all, look at what he’s achieved for the Redskins’ quarterbacks over the past three years ( 2009 & 2010 & 2011 ) ? Tell me what you see as glaring there?

    tophatal ….

Leading into the NFL Draft, It was clear that the Redskins were desperate for a franchise quarterback and the team finally got their man. As long as RGIII produces on the gridiron, you won’t hear a “peep” from the Washington Redskins.

  3. If he’s as sharp on the NFL gridirons as he has been on the collegiate ones… and off them as well… Washington has themselves a franchise QB for years to come. I love this guy. Redskins fans should be fired up. I don’t even think Mike Shanahan can screw this one up.

    • CDR says:

Thanks for stopping by Bruce. I definitely agree. RGIII has tremendous upside and will join Cam Newton and Andy Dalton as the next premiere young QB’s of the new NFL generation. That’s if we still have a league due to all this “I don’t want to let my kids play football because it’s too dangerous” talk.

  4. Sam Brief says:

Wow! Trademarking his name! I agree with Jeremy, he had better prove himself in the NFL.

    • CDR says:

With that speed and that type of arm, it’s only a matter of time when RGIII becomes a household name.

  5. Looks like whoever is advising this guy is doing just fine.
