Who ever said the “Knickerbockers” didn’t care about Linsanity? The truth of the matter is that the team wants nothing more than to sign Jeremy Lin to a new free agent contract. So much so that the Knicks have already launched a preemptive attack on the young point guard.
According to TMZ, Knicks coach Mike Woodson; along with team stars Carmelo Anthony and Tyson Chandler were seen leaving Mastro’s Steakhouse in Beverly Hills, California. With them was none other than Jeremy Lin who will be entering free agency in just a few weeks.
Even greater news, the arbitrator had recently ruled in favor of the players when it came down to athletes, such as Lin, who had been claimed off waivers to retain their Bird rights [simply means that the team is able to exceed their cap in order to re-sign their own players - originated with the Boston Celtics when the team chose to re-sign Larry Bird, hence “Bird” rights].
Given this information, this puts the Knicks in great position to sign not just Jeremy Lin, but also Steve Novak, the team’s three-point threat.
However, the Knicks great fortune seems to be receiving negative criticism from the league. Led by commissioner David Stern, the NBA has plans to appeal the arbitrator’s [Kenneth Dam] decision to award waived players Bird rights.
With David Stern, nothing comes as a surprise.

Hey CDR! You would figure that they gotta lock up their sensation! If Lin leaves, who would sell tixs for the Knicks? Amare and his twitter account?
Hey Alex, welcome back! Funny, but it’s true. Unless Carmelo Anthony and Amare Stoudemire finally learn how to play with one another, the Knicks will once again have a disappointing season. For the life of me, I’ve been saying that one of these players need to go. Let’s see what happens.
I’ll say this, after Amare`s homophobic slur, the Knicks could do with something positive by way of some really good news. See link provided for story:
Amare Stoudemire tweets anti-gay slur to fan, NBA will review
Nice comment Alan! Surely, there needs to be some positive news to come out of the Knicks. The potential Lin signing, while some are not too excited about it, could provide just that.
The last line says it all. I’m confident the NBA would be much better off with new, fresher blood in that Commish role.
I hear you Bruce. David Stern might be a great commissioner, but I’ve been getting such a negative vibe from him lately. Every time I see him answering questions in an interview, Stern always seems to be defensive with every topic. Something that needs to change if he wants the fans to appreciate the good things he has done to the NBA.
Lin is like Vanilla Ice a one hit wonder. They are doing all of this to make sure they can keep their China fan base. Lin will be an after thought. Even though he seems like a good guy and has some fundamentals, he will be buried by the fame and will disappear.
Thanks for the comment man. Many people are starting not to have confidence in Jeremy Lin. Of course, everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but I firmly believe he can help the Knicks. The Knicks don’t have to go down the Lin road, but they sure need to get a legitimate point guard or it’s 2012 all over again.
I think one of the biggest story lines going into next season is whether Lin’s a starting point guard in the league and how far the Knicks can go with him at the helm.
I agree Chris. Lin thought a little too much when Stoudemire and Carmelo was on the court. Even with all the turnover problems, he still proved to be the best point guard for the team. Lin will need to focus on being himself and not being too overzealous when the team’s other stars are on the floor. If the Knicks sign Lin, which looks to be a lock, Lin’s ability will certainly be a headline every other week.
