Introducing RoboCup: The Robot Soccer World Cup

By CDR

Courtesy of BotSport TV, a new generation of sports has surfaced onto the worldwide media.

That’s right, this isn’t your typical widely known FIFA World Cup. Argentine footballer, Lionel Messi will not be scoring any goals in this competition. Instead of actual humans, the RoboCup held in Mexico City, is actually played by none other than man-made robots.

Don’t be fooled by these cute machines. The RoboCup is a worldwide league and you’re about to see just how serious it could become.

Check out the soccer humanoid league between Germany and Japan in the 2012 semi-finals. We can’t wait to see the “MVR” of the league.

Get it, Most Valuable Robot.

    LOL!

Soccer geared towards geeks with IQ’s hitting the stratosphere. Now if there’s a hot chic like Penny from “The Big Bang Theory,” then my interest might be piqued.

    • CDR says:

You’re right about that one Alan. These boys are super smart, it’s unbelievable that there’s an actual league for this type of thing. FYI, I didn’t see any “Penny’s” in the video. Surely doubt it.

  3. I’m so happy that robots won’t be taking over the world any time soon.

  4. That robot FLOPPED!!!

  5. I love the way the goalies “dive” to get a ball on net. Hysterical how they just tip over in the direction of the ball. This could get interesting if they can master these machines down the road and step up their game.

I hear you Bruce. This is the beginning of a new sports generation. Not sure if you saw the movie, “Real Steel,” but imagine having a real boxing match with robots like that. Awesomeness!
