The U.S. Men’s Olympic Basketball Team began their gold medal quest today by defeating France with the score of 98-71.
The United States played well in its first game at the Olympics. Led by Kevin Durant’s 22 points, the U.S. team surpassed its first challenge without being forced to look back.
In terms of the United States’ overall play, the team missed many shots from the three-point line during the battle, but was never serious enough where it changed the momentum of the game.
There were a total of six NBA players that represented France at the Olympics. One of them was NBA All-Star point guard, Tony Parker. When asked about the tough task in playing against the U.S.A., the calm and collected star hesitated and said:
“They’re going to be very, very tough to beat,” Parker said.
As the game progressed, Tony Parker’s statement slowly started to become true. The U.S. had gotten its groove back, something that the French team just couldn’t overcome.
The U.S.A will move forward to their next game against Tunisia, who had already lost to Nigeria with the score of 60-56.
