The first time Team USA met Spain in the preliminary round in London, the Americans proved they were the best during that time outscoring the Spaniards by 22 points [100-78].

In that same game, Spain had decided to rest their star and NBA center, Marc Gasol due to injury so it was clear that Spain still had more to give.

As everyone expected, Team USA and Spain were the last two teams standing competing for the gold medal at the 2012 Olympics. This time, Marc Gasol would be playing as Spain tries to prove their worth to Team USA.

It sounded good, and while Spain managed to play its best game at the Olympics, it still wasn’t enough to rout the United States. Led by All-Star Kevin Durant and his 30 points, the Americans conquered the pressure and finished Spain with the final score of 107-100.

It’s great to see Kobe Bryant win this gold medal, especially because you know this will be the 33-year-old’s last Olympic title.

With this victory, the United States continue to still be the dominant basketball country in the world at the Olympic games posting a 130-5 record against its opponents.

To the USA players, it’s all about doing it for the country.

“It’s all about the USA,” said James. “It’s all about the three letters on the chest.”

  1. In the waning minutes of the game I had my doubts until Team USA really made the margin of victory beyond a doubt. That being said the Gasol brothers proved to me that neither is soft!

Ah well it’s on to Rio de Janiero and Brasilia city in 2016, now my hometown of London can start the clean up process.

Spain definitely gave it all they had and should be proud of their silver medal. The “Gasol Brothers” are legit.

  2. How sweet it is!

Team USA needed to get this one. Imagine if they would’ve came back with a silver medal? Bottom line, Team USA handled their business, good for them.
