During the 7th inning stretch of last night’s game against the New York Yankees, Red Sox second baseman Dustin Pedroia had received word that his wife was going into labor. Red Sox manager, Bobby Valentine had approached Pedroia about the situation and most likely rushed the infielder to leave the ballpark so that he could get to the hospital.
After being informed of the sudden news, Pedroia’s face was classic. You could sense that all Dustin was thinking about was getting to his wife, family, and his new baby the fastest way possible.
Pedroia eventually left the game, a game in which the New York Yankees ended up winning with the score of 5-4.
So many Yankees’ fans congratulated Pedroia, but we’re not exactly sure if the people were happier for him or the fact that the Yankees were able to win the game and keep up with the Orioles. Either way, it worked out for both sides.
Dustin Pedroia and the Boston Red Sox will pretty much not make the playoffs this season as the team ranks dead last in the American League East. However, as everyone knows, the fight to the finish is currently going on with the New York Yankees and the Baltimore Orioles. After losing a 10-game division lead, the Yankees are trying to scratch their way back into the playoffs. The Orioles continue to play well down the stretch and remain in the Yankees’ rearview mirror.
Both teams are currently tied for first place [80-62] in their division with only 20 games remaining in the regular season.
