While signing autographs at the stadium, Detroit Tigers’ third baseman Miguel Cabrera had seen a “Fire Leyland” sign held by an annoying fan and decided to confiscate the material. The fan continued to badger Cabrera during autographs, but to no avail.
This move shows exactly how much respect Cabrera and the rest of the Tigers’ staff have for their skipper, Jim Leyland. The Tigers are currently one game back from first place in the American League Central, and even though this particular sign would have no impact on Leyland’s future, it’s always great to see a player stick up for the manager every once in a while.
Detroit currently has a three-game winning streak and with only 19 games left in the regular season, the Tigers are concentrated on one thing, winning their division and diving head first into the MLB 2012 Playoffs.

Good on Cabrera. Leyland is a good manager who doesn’t deserve that treatment from the fans. That is respect shown by Cabrera.
The Tigers are looking very strong and you can’t ask for more when your players are behind you as the manager. These last 19 games will be very exciting. Can’t wait.
The Tigers are clearly in contention. Why would they want to fire Leyland?
Exactly Chris. Some fans just want to make signs for the heck of it. Glad Cabrera took the sign away. It was definitely a good move on his part.
Tigers’ fans are as dumb as they look! Without Leyland and GM Dave Dombrowski the Tigers would be irrelevant.
Jim Leyland is one of the best managers in the league. It’s crazy sometimes what fans come up with.
