A couple of days ago, the Minnesota Vikings snatched themselves a quality receiver in free agency. Ex-Packer Greg Jennings had signed a five-year contract worth around $47.5 million dollars with $18 million guaranteed.
The signing most likely attributed to Percy Harvin leaving and signing with the Seattle Seahawks. The Vikings felt they needed a replacement, thus engaging in trade talks with Greg Jennings’ agent.
Part of the reason why Jennings even considered joining the Vikings was due to Brett Favre (played as Vikings QB from 2009-10). According to Jennings, he really took Brett Favre’s advice to heart.
“Literally, as I got off the plane and (offensive coordinator Bill) Musgrave walked up to me, I’m on the phone with Brett,” Jennings said on KFAN-AM, via Min.Scout.com. “I spoke with Brett two or three times throughout this process. He shot me straight. I knew if there was one person that would shoot straight and tell me exactly what I wanted to hear and things I possibly didn’t want to hear, it would be Brett. He did that for me.”
The Vikings/Packers rivalry will forever live on, but more and more players are now starting to jump to the other side of the fence. When it comes to large sums of money and free agency, there aren’t any rules to the game.
