How Sweet It Is: Florida Gulf Coast Moves On

Leading into this year’s NCAA tournament, Florida Gulf Coast University was chosen as one of the 68 teams that will be participating in the “March Madness.”

Aside from the people and the kids that supported and went to Florida Gulf Coast, the school was unheard-of. Big schools, such as Kansas, Louisville, Ohio St. were expected to move on, but no one would’ve ever imagined for the Florida Gulf Coast Eagles to make it as far they have being the first #15th seed to advance to the Sweet 16.

March Madness has given us many surprises this year. FGCU joins Wichita St. and Oregon as the three teams that based on seeds, aren’t supposed to be where they are, but like everyone knows, “this is why we play the game because in the tournament, you just never really know.”

Florida Gulf Coast brings a different dimension to the tournament with their high-flying dunking and running style. FGCU has grabbed many people’s attention and after stunning #2 seed Georgetown and then surpassing #7 seed San Diego St., the Eagles move on to face yet another big-time school in #3 seed Florida Gators.

Hands down, FGCU busted nearly 99% of everyone’s bracket and has been tagged as this tournament’s “Cinderella” team. If you haven’t been tuning into the Eagles, now is the time to watch and get to know the guys wearing the cobalt blue and emerald green.

It’s alright if you didn’t know who the Eagles were, heck, even Apple’s most-famous “Siri” didn’t know who Florida Gulf Coast University was. It’s fair to say that’s no longer the case.

FGCU will go against Florida in Cowboys Stadium on Friday, March 29th at 9:57 PM. (Eastern Time)

  1. Everybody loves a Cinderella (except of course for Georgetown).

An impressive run for a school that’s not even 20 years old but it’ll end Friday night when they meet Billy Donovan’s boys.

Florida Gulf Coast University impressed the entire nation and it’s the reason why we love March Madness so much. You just never know.

  2. Florida Gulf Coast University no longer, just a place of academic excellence , the female co-eds are now "putting out " . Party hard friends , party hard!

    • CDR says:

You got that right Alan, Let’s hope FGCU can maintain being on the NCAA board and doesn’t disappear.
